Job Description

Basic Function:


Supervise and guide all rig moves to ensure that they are undertaken in a safe and proper manner. Ensure that all the personnel involved in the rig moves are fully aware of every aspect of rig move, stability and emergency control procedures for Marine emergencies. Liaise with the client on rig moves between locations and issue clear guidelines to Company staff for the safe execute on of the rig moves. Supervise rig moves and recommend when moves should be deferred due to climatic conditions, thereby assuring the safety of the rig and its crew. Review & ensure the suitability of proposed location document for all moves. Audit all items of equipment and facilities acknowledged as being marine in nature. Establish plans for all classification related surveys, inspections for the offshore fleet Track forthcoming surveys and issues explicit directives for preparatory work. Assist Head of Marine Services all activities of his involvement in marine matters, including various contracts, RIAP, HSE, Rig move planning and coordination, etc.



Work Performed :

  • Reviews rig move document and soil data and related analysis to determine suitability of location for the proposed type of Rig.
  • Attends, supervises and guides all rig moves. Relieves the Barge Captain/Engineer on the jacking console            during particularly long rig moves. Determines if move should occur when sea state or weather is inclement. Carries the responsibility for advising the Rig Manager whether to move or not where conditions are not ideal and may deteriorate further Makes observations to identify any obvious anomalies pertaining to the move and demonstrates his capability with the jacking procedures. The incumbent's decisions may overrule the client's Rig mover decisions in order to protect the rig.
  • Checks and approves stability calculations and pre move check list for rig a minimum of 48 hours in advance of a rig move and checks calculations prior to lowering the hull into the water. Rectifies of any errors found and recommends remedial action prior to lowering the barge into water.
  • Co-ordinates with the Warranty Surveyor and Client's Rig Mover during rig moves to ensure that moves are carried out with due regard to safety standards and company procedures.
  • Organizes all upcoming surveys and class related repairs recording and checking dates for completion and if work is of a maintenance nature or mandatory.
  • Follows up on close out of comments and recommendations made by the class surveyor and Rig move observation.
  • Follow up on all day-to-day supervision of the Marine related tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor and include directing and checking the work of third party contractors to ensure timely completion of the tasks.
  • Recommends procedures for rectifying of anomalies and defects observed by different audits relevant to hull, jacking system, lifeboats and lifesaving equipment and discusses action to be taken with Rig Managers and Barge Captains/Engineers to ensure that defects are dealt with.
  • Reviews all Marine related 'Management of Changes' (MOCs) and evaluate visibility of the proposed changes and ensure adequacy of supporting document and drawing for classification society submission.
  • Assists the HMS in preparing budgets for all rigs with respect to marine activity and training by estimating budgets for refurbishment and any modification costs for work as deemed necessary. Bases calculation on previous (historical) expenditure for similar exercises.
  • Performs related duties as assigned, such as participating in the preparation and updating of the Marine Procedures manual for offshore operations and the like.


Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum Requirements :


  • Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent with additional training in nautical subjects.
  • 8 years' related experience preferably on offshore rigs similar to those used by Company, where minimum 3 years at senior barge captain/engineer level.
  • Acceptable level of leadership and communication skills.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Must be a computer literate.
