Job Description
Basic Function:
• Provides specialist support and assumes responsibility for areas related to corrosion monitoring and control in Ruwais Refinery including plant, offsite and jetty equipment and piping.
• Reviews the operating conditions to assess and monitor corrosive conditions and evaluates the material performance in corrosive streams.
• Reviews the metallurgy of the equipment and piping and makes recommendations for upgrading as required.
Work Performed:
Corrosion Monitoring and Corrosion Control:
• Conducts corrosion monitoring and corrosion control for the plant equipment, storage tanks and piping/pipelines to ensure integrity and reliability. Prepares periodic corrosion reports and maintains updated information/data in inspection management system.
Causes of Corrosion & Failure:
• Reviews the inspection & corrosion observations and analyses the same after turnaround and during on-stream inspections. Identifies causes of corrosion and failure and makes necessary recommendations.
Project Specifications:
• Assists senior corrosion engineer(s) in reviewing project specifications for corrosion control, material and quality assurance aspects. Reviews the metallurgy for the modification and major projects.
Corrosion Monitoring Design:
• Reviews the existing corrosion monitoring and control design, highlights problems and suggests improvement to ensure protection of all respective equipment, piping & structures.
Failure Analysis / Investigation:
• Carries out failure analysis and failure investigation in order to enhance safety and integrity of the plant. Supervises the corrosion monitoring and control systems upkeep. Updates/ prepares the records and corrosion & inspection files for the plant and equipment.
Corrosion Control Policies / Procedures:
• Assists senior corrosion engineer(s) in review for upgrades needed for the corrosion control policies/procedures to ensure effective corrosion control.
On-Site Metallography:
• Prepares scope and carries out on-site metallography using replica technique to monitor microstructures; evaluates microstructure condition and issues reports.
Corrosion Loops:
• Carries out a thorough and detailed review of all Ruwais Refinery units to define the corrosion loops; and carries out detailed study to meet the requirements of Risk- Based Inspections.
Coordination:
• Works closely with Cathodic Protection Engineers and Inspection Engineers for issues related to corrosion.
HSE:
• Knows the Company’s Health, Safety, Environment & Fire policies, procedures, regulations and objectives and ensures that they are effectively implemented and incorporated in all work activities.
Miscellaneous:
• Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
Desired Candidate Profile
Minimum Requirements
• B.Sc. in Metallurgical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferably with qualification in corrosion engineering.
• 7 years’ experience in process and utilities of Petroleum Refineries or Chemical Process Plants.
• Good written and spoken English.
• Knowledge of Arabic language is preferable.
