Job Description
Job Purpose
Management level officer and a licensed member of the engineering department on a barge or offshore service boat Assist and co-ordinate the provision of various support services on assigned marine rig covering loading/offloading and movement of cargo on the rig, jacking controls, ballast, safety environment and firefighting equipment and teams, cleaning and painting together with all marine equipment on board. Assists in applying the Preventive Maintenance Schedule (PMS). To assist, co-ordinate and maintain associated records of all preventive maintenance activity on an assigned rig.
Accountabilities
- Monitors that daily working variables are within design limits for safe operation of the barge by calculating load distribution and arranging re-distribution of all variable loads to achieve even loading
- Assists to calculate leg reaction and leg motor torque necessary to hold correct position and establishes centre of gravity to required safe parameters. Checks adequate supplies of fuel and water and incorporates weight of the same into calculations. Monitors leg reaction is less than pre-load reaction and checking the rig levels on a daily basis.
- Inspects that the hull and structure parts are maintained, preserved and protected by using adequate and suitable paint as per the maintenance procedure for tanks and void spaces
- Coordinates with team members to ensure incorporation of maintenance/repair work carried out under their direction in the classification log showing major/minor work undertaken together with date, type and description of work undertaken. Assists in preparing classification survey to prove the sea-worthiness of the rig
- Supports all preventive maintenance activity on an assigned rig and make sure the timely execution of such maintenance on barge machinery, electrical and drilling equipment. Assists in maintaining accurate records of preventive maintenance tasks performed. Assist in maintaining associated files and equipment history in order that full and accurate historical information on specific equipment can be quickly located and accessed
- Assists in various inspection activities in accordance with company and statutory requirements. Includes hoisting/lifting appliances, loading testing, vessels inspection, relief valves inspection, classification related inspections, i.e. annual hull surveys, annual load line inspection and dry docking surveys. Assists in maintaining proper records for all classes of certification including drilling, maintenance and pressure related equipment.
- Supports firefighting activities on the rig in the event of a fire until directed otherwise
- Supports in preparation of rig moves. Assistance includes preparing stability sheet for jacking, floating and pre-load calculation checking compliance with rig move checklist preparation, revises documents received from HO for any comments, issues and follows up all activities related to the move check list i.e. skid substructure to centre line and skid cantilever to forward.
- Assisting in monitoring elevating motors as required, brake air gap, cranes and loose items on deck are located in accordance with good seamanship practices, close hatches, towing bridle, anchor winches and pre-load valves are in order; Monitors sounding of all tanks is carried out regularly while afloat.
- Visits rig regularly at all times, identifying any necessary work to be undertaken
- Supports the loading/unloading and movement of all cargo on assigned rig. This includes assisting in crane operations to make sure safe handling of materials, equipment, pipes and other bulky items aboard, personally operating crane to move/load/unload critical items, as required to make sure security of such lifts. Supports for drill floor. Assists in monitoring all cranes are in good working order and operated as per manufactures’ stated limited and conditions, carries out the load plan for complex lifts.

Assists in inspection and certification of barge equipment and facilities covering windows, hoists, loose tackle, ship, safety and fire detection and control equipment. Inspects jacking and skidding systems are in good working conditions and plans their maintenance as needed. Supports in inspecting mooring ropes and requests replacement as required. Checks repair, maintenance and replacement of such equipment and rejects substandard work/replacements.

- Educated to a degree level and holds a qualification associated with maritime engineering that is compatible to the engine power, trade and special requirements of the boat intended to serve on
