Job Description

Statement Of Functions  

To perform the operations related to the commissioning, maintenance and defect investigation activities of the Substation Control & Monitoring System (SCMS) facilities pertaining to grid and primary stations. To ensure adherence to the policies and procedures from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and all working directives from the company, to ensure all Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) are achieved..

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To perform necessary testing of the SCMS to maintain the integrity of the system and all-inclusive variants such as work stations, gateways, relevant components and auxiliaries, to protect the company assets. To notify the Head of Section of all relevant information.
  • To investigate the defects on both hardware and software of the SCMS and locate the Root Cause, before restoring the system back to its optimal level of performance. To prevent against the repetition of defects.
  • To carryout scheduled preventative maintenance for the SCMS to ensure integrity and reliability of the system. To report major faults to the Hardware Section Head for further action.
  • To install, test and re-test all new and existing equipment such as workstations, gateways, switches and integrated extensions of feeders, ensuring compliance with set standards.
  • To perform parameterization engineering of all SCMA components using relevant and specific software. To also carryout operational tasks and periodic testing relevant to the optimal performance of the SCMS.
  • To oversee commissioning tests executed by contractors and consultants for the additional extensions to existing commissioned SCMS equipment, ensuring adherence to appropriate procedures. To also report information, and results to the Head of Hardware Section.
  • To execute technical evaluations of equipment provided by the vendors to ensure that equipment are in accordance with the specification and international standards.
  • To prepare technical evaluations on tender bids and forward recommendations to the Hardware Section for consideration and reference.
  • Ensure that all work procedures are carried out in accordance with the System Safety Rules and HSE Roles and Responsibilities Procedure, in addition to the general safety rules and regulations enforced by local authorities.

 

Desired Candidate Profile

 

Minimum Job Requirements

  • B.SC in Computer Science.
  • 7 years direct experience of SCMS’s environment.
  • An understanding of SCADA and RTU’s. Knowledge of UNIX is preferable.
  • A fair knowledge of the HSE regulations, procedures, standards.
  • Good knowledge of electrical power utility systems.
  • Competent within interpersonal communication, people and work coordination, with the ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
  • PC literate, especially MS Access.
  • Excellent Arabic and English both written and spoken.
